Review: Cable #1

March 7, 2008

After everything that’s gone on in X-men, we now get to see what’s become of Cable and the baby or ginge as I’m calling her till she gets a name. (Joan, Jane or some think with J? ) So here he is, the time lost soldier with ginge and in a messed up future,

The art was very nice. I think there as been a kind of a western tone to character of Cable (Eastwood any one?) I thought that the art followed this tone quite well with the opening pages, with Cable painted as a lone gunman. I just hope they can keep this going with a future settings with out going all Star Wars .

As for the story, what happend was not much. The baby didn’t cry in her own time (g3ek: Who’s to say that the normal MU is her time, bhuddwha?) but she does now, oh and cable doesn’t like changing nappies.

What was cool was the brief moments with bishop, now with added abnormal sized metal arm and learning how long has he been chasing Cable for.

I think it would be good to have one of the themes from C&D continue in this book. What is that theme?, Well it’s why does Cable think his way is the right way? I mean what give Cable the right to destroy Bishops time line through his attempt at saving this baby girl, just because he thinks she may save mankind? Does he know for sure, that saving this baby is the right thing to do? Bishop certainly doesn’t.

I would have liked a bit more of a hint to what’s in store for us readers and a little less catch up from X-men MC. An old man and a baby is not really a jumping of the shelf comic for new readers and I think there should have been a bit more following up plot for those of us who know what to expect from such a title. now over to g3ek for his thought on the matter.

G3ek: Nice art I suppose. As a first issue, it really didn’t grab me and say “Hey fanboy, keep reading me, I’m going to take you on a great journey.” After I finished reading this issue I was bit, you know ‘meh’, I mean is it just going to be Lone Wolf and Cub set in space? Are we going to find out why Bishops gone a bit crazy for? Is the baby Jean or maybe Rachel? Is bhuddwha going to punch me in the face? Do I really care about where this storyline is going to go? The answer to the latter is probably not.

Well, I’m not sure what to make of this episode really. I think all the light hearted stuff does not work half as well as the darker episodes and after the death of Owen three parter, I’m not sure how well this one follows them up .

Even though this is meant to be a big deal with the wedding and all, this really felt like a filler episode. All the tension between Jack and Gwen was fun to watch as always, Although if I was Rhys and I saw Gwen looking at Jack like, just after I had saved her life with an alien gizzmo I would have told her to go fucking swing and lamped Jack again .

The longer owen stays dead the more I like him, even though he did not have much to do in this episode. His one liners are always funny and I think dry wit suits the dead.

Although, had I been there, I would have found all the welsh voices harder to deal with than any shape shifting alien .Sorry this is not much of a review really but it was not much of an episode .

Cable #1

March 7, 2008

cabl001.jpg So here we are, Cable #1, hmmm. I know Bhuddwha a bit upset because, this new issue of Cable means the end of his previous series Cable and Deadpool, which he liked a lot. Me? I feel like it’s the 90′s all over again, what with this and X-force both starting again. The question is what makes this new series any different to his previous (canceled) series, but before I answer that question, Bhuddwha has some stuff to say…

A few things to say before I read cable #1
Well yes i am a little upset to see deadpool take his leave but at least he is getting his own comic ( in fucking September
though bit of a wait ) but after 50 issues of C&D, I want to see how much of what Cable was about is carried over to his new book, although I’m thinking it won’t be much. Also it wasn”t until after reading X-position (A column on CBR) that I went back to X-men #207 and saw that indeed bishop did lose his right arm.

Lowe had this to say “Check out “Cable” #2 for an explanation of how Bishop survived his brush with Predator X and escaped Muir Island!”
I’d remembered seeing a pic that i think was from Cable #2 of our hero facing off against a man with a metal arm.

So is bishop the opposite of cable then? One being black and the other one white, one trying to save the baby and the other trying to kill it, one with a metal left arm the other with a metal right arm? and both from opposing time lines .

and lastly please please please dont let the powerfull ginger baby be Jean Grey .

I’ve promised g3ek that I would hit him in the face if the baby is Jean reborn. So thats maybe something good if it does turns out to be Jean.

Previously on Lost

March 5, 2008

On Friday at sometime I’m going to post my thoughts on Thursdays episode of Lost, “The Other Woman”. Before I did so, I thought I’d just give you a few word on what I have thought of season 4 so far. Those word are “Fucking” and “Awesome”.

Now the Kate-centric episode “Eggtown” wasn’t all that powerful, but it was still nearly as good, if not better than most of season 3. Oh season 3, why must I be so down on you? You really want to know? Well :-

1. The whole Cyclops, Jean Grey and Wovle… Sorry I meant the whole Jack/Kate/Saywer love triangle thing is like watching cows graze to me. Also Jack and FUCKING Kate can fuck off and die for all I care. (That’s right people, I’m a Kack hater, dom dom da!!!! )

2. The Mystery of the Others was ruined. All their menace was all but gone, they became as scary as Nightmare on Elmstreet 4 : The Dream Master.

3. Mr Echo was killed off. What was wrong with that? Well, in my opinoin, all the best characters on the show are the mysterious ones, the enigmatic ones and Echo was just that, a enigma. I think it really did hurt the show when the Triple A decided to leave.

4. Not enough Locke, you got to have more Terry O’Quinn, it’s the law (or it should be.)

So getting back to the point, I think if the pace keeps up like it as been and we get more Daniel Faraday (he is my new favorite) we should be OK! We shall have to see what Friday brings

TV shows

March 5, 2008

One of the things we are going to blog about are TV shows. It’s going to be the same deal as we do with comics, in that it won’t be a real review of the episode/program, more like a commentary. I may also write some random stuff here and there as well.

Now the shows we are going to talk about will be SciFi/Genre shows, like Lost, Dr. Who etc… One show I won’t be talking about is The bloody Sarah Connor Chronicles. Why? Well because anything about the Terminator made after T2 is DTM, that’s why.

So rant over, the first post about TV shows will be posted either today or tomorrow and will be about tonight’s Torchwood, “Something Borrowed”

Comics

March 3, 2008

Comics have always been a big part of my life, ever since I could read. In fact they helped me to learn to read in a way.

I have always been loyal to marvel and the x-men, following them blindly some times its my religion and always will be .

Over the years I have picked up more and more marvel titles and now read about 90% of there weekly publishing catalog and although some times it even pushing my suspension of disbelief .

all though not the biggest comic geek in the world, I do consider myself well versed in the stories and background of the Marvel universe (mostly the X-men.) I thought it was time to share my thoughts on what was going on every week in the marvel comics. I’ll leave publishing stories and thoughts to my brother, so ill try to post weekly on my fav 3 comics every week .

From the art, the stories so far, to where I think the stories are and should be going, come check back for all my thought reviews every week .

See you soon true believers. ( God I’ve always wanted to say that )
